MTBC banned usage of all urethane balls in all sanctioned tournament.

The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC), as the national governing body for the sport, is entrusted with upholding the highest standards of competitive integrity, fairness, and sportsmanship. Our mandate is to foster a competitive environment that rewards skill, adaptability, and strategic excellence, while ensuring a sustainable pathway for athlete development.

Following extensive review, consultation with technical experts, coaches, and elites athletes, and careful consideration of global trends, local lane conditions, and studies conducted by the United States Bowling Congress (USBC), MTBC has determined that the use of slow oil-absorbing high-performance urethane bowling balls will be disallowed in all tournaments hosted by MTBC and its State Affiliates, effectives immediately.

This decision is founded upon two fundamental principles:

           1 Preserving Competitive Integrity

           2. Safeguarding Long-Term Athlete Development

           3. Preservation of Competitive Integrity and Fairness

The essence of sport lies in a level playing field where outcomes are determined by athletic skill and strategic execution. The unique characteristics of the slow oil-absorbing high-performance urethane equipment have introduced inconsistencies that compromise this principle:

Lane Pattern Integrity: Slow oil-absorbing high-performance urethane balls can alter lane oil patterns more rapidly, disrupting the intended design and creating inequitable conditions for players of different styles.

Athlete Development: Over-reliance on Slow oil-absorbing high-performance urethanes balis may limit versatility and impede the comprehensive skill development essentiall for long-term growth, particularly among emerging athletes.

Governance and Integrity: Slow oil-absorbing high-performance urethane balls may soften over time, complicating the distinction between natural aging and intentionall modification. This has led to disputes, procedural challenges, and concerns regarding consistent enforcement. Upon discussion with the experts, on-site tournament testing is highly not recommended by the experts, and as equipment has been found to be below the allowed limits as per IBF Rules. MTBC has made the decision to disallow its use at its championships. The situation will be monitored, and further reviews may be made.

The 36th Interstate Tenpin Bowling Championship began on 27 September 2025, bringing together 15 states in four days of thrilling competition and high-level matchups.

Day 1 saw Sarawak open the medal tally by striking gold in the women’s singles. Kuala Lumpur quickly followed with a victory in the boy’s singles, while Sabah made a powerful start with two golds in the senior men’s and girl’s singles divisions. Selangor wrapped up the opening day in style by winning the senior women’s event.

Day 2 swung the momentum in new directions. Selangor stamped their dominance in both the boy’s and girl’s doubles, while Penang claimed the men’s doubles and Sabah delivered another gold in the women’s doubles. In the senior categories, Pahang made their mark by securing the men’s doubles crown, and Kelantan took home the women’s doubles title.

The final day brought an electrifying showcase of teamwork in the Team of Four events. Sarawak reigned in the girl’s category, Selangor captured the boy’s title, Kuala Lumpur triumphed in the men’s division, and Sabah added another gold in the women’s event. Pahang impressed by sweeping both senior men’s and senior women’s team titles.

Selangor shone brightest in the boy’s division, Sabah took charge in both the girl’s and women’s categories, Penang claimed the men’s crown, while Pahang and Selangor stood tall in the senior divisions.

Meanwhile, Singapore set the standard when their camp emerged as the overall champions, dominating the lanes with a total of 6 Gold medals, underlining the depth and quality of their youth development program. Hazel Tan Wei Ning led the charge with a gold in the Girls Singles, while Aiman Raedyn Lim Jen claimed the Boys Singles title shortly after. Singapore’s prowess was further cemented in the Girls Doubles, where Nur Irdina Binte Hazly and Lim Shi En clinched gold, all while contributing to the Girl's Team of Four, striking another gold for Singapore. Lim Shi En continued her medal haul by topping the Girls All-Events category, and on the last day of the championship, Mike Ong Jing Loong sealed Singapore’s 6th gold with a victory in the Boys Masters.
Kuwait and South Korea impressed the crowds with stellar performance. Kuwait steamrolled the Boy's categories with their first gold in Team of Four, while Hassan Qasem striking his own gold in the Boys All-Events. South Korea settled third in standing, but shows remarkable consistency with 1 Gold and 7 Silvers. Their lone Gold came from Paek Ye Dam, who outclassed the field in the Girls Masters final.
While Team Youth Malaysia may have hoped for a higher medal haul on home soil, the exposure and experience gained will be invaluable in shaping the future of our young bowlers. MTBC remains committed to nurturing talent and raising the standard of youth bowling nationwide, and the 22nd Asian Youth Championships provided a strong platform to assess progress and plan for future success. We congratulate all medalists and participating countries for their sportsmanship and outstanding performances. A special thank you goes to the organizing committee, volunteers, officials, and supporters who made this championship a resounding success.

MTBC to send biggest squad to compete in Europe

Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) will not let financial constraints stop them from giving their bowlers plenty of opportunities to improve.

MTBC have decided to send a strong 21-member squad comprising 10 men and 11 women – the biggest outside Asia by MTBC – to compete in the Brunswick Euro Challenge, the highest-tier tournament of the European Bowling Tour in Munich, Germany, from March 19-24.

Previously, only the elite bowlers were selected for the European tour but this time, the back-up bowlers have been included so that they will have an equal chance to fight for their places in major competitions such as the multi-sport Games and World Championships. MTBC secretary-general Maradona Chok said only Rafiq Ismail and Nora Lyana Nastasia Norkamal would miss the trip. Rafiq is currently based in the United States while Nora is still unfit after undergoing surgery for her right wrist.

“We’ll be making our strongest presence ever in Europe. We’ve never sent more than 12 bowlers to any Open tournaments outside of Asia,” said Maradona. “We are creating a fair ranking system for both elite and back-up bowlers by allowing them to compete in the same tournaments. We’ll be able to gauge them fairly.”

Maradona said they would enter a full team for two more stops in Europe – San Marino Open from July 6-14 and Track Dream-Bowl Palace Open in Germany from July 13-21. “MTBC will continue to send national bowlers for competitions despite the recent budget cut,” said Maradona. “All we ask from the bowlers in return is to do their best and bring glory to the country.”

The team’s main assignments this year are the Women’s World Championships in Las Vegas (Aug 22-30), Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Kuwait (Oct 20-30) and the Philippines SEA Games (Nov 30-Dec 10).
