The National Coaching and Certification and Licensing Program is to give recognition and credibility to all the coaches who are members of MTBC/NSC list of active coaches.

Why Become a MTBC Certified Coach?

Coaching development programme offered by MTBC ensures coach receives relevant coaching instruction, materials, technical knowledge needed to maintain quality standard in coaching for further development of the sport in the country.


Coaches must complete the theory and practical training program and pass the exam/evaluation to be certified by MTBC. MTBC offers following certification for coaches. The certification and licensing program is to ensure that coaches engaged in coaching for the sport of Tenpin Bowling are capable and responsible in their method of coaching and provide a world class program.


A "Coaching Certificate" will be presented to those participants who have passed the Coaching Certification Course.


A "Coaching License" will be issued and valid for a period of 2 years as per the National Coaching Academy guidelines. A coach MUST have a valid coaching license to apply/renew their coaching SPKK License with NSI/NSC. The license is also to identify private academies/clubs coaching capability. A RM200 fee is charged for a 2-years MTBC Coaching License.


Level 1 - Bowling Coaching Certificate

(AKK Level 1 Sport Specific)

This is entry level certification for new coach who just started out to coach bowling. Interested participants MUST have bowling experience.


The course covers the basic principles in coaching, technical aspect of bowling and scoring, essential drills etc.


The course is duration is 4 days. 

Each participant will learn the basics of the sport of bowling, scoring, basic spare systems, and essential drills for beginners.


Upon completion of the course. The coach is certified to coach the following:-


1. Beginners


Basic coaching of drills and preparing the bowler to have good basics before advancing to the next level. 


Typically it is for Beginners. Bowlers that are averaging up to 150.


Coaches certified will be able to train bowlers in executing the drills correctly, with basic adjustments on lane play and sparing.


Coaches will be able to report observations to the head coach of the program. Reporting is a very important aspect of coaching.

Bronze Level Coaching Certificate

(AKK Level 2 Sport Specific)

Once coach has passed the Level 1 certification and completed the required coaching hours, he/she can proceed to enrol for Bronze level course and certification conducted by MTBC Certified Trainer/Coach.


The Bronze level will go into more indepth understanding of the sport, and guides the coach to identify problems in the approach and release as well as correcting the errors in the game.


The Bronze level coach will also be able to understand basic ball mapping, lane play adjustments.


The Bronze Level cert is a requirement for:


1. State Assistant Coaches 

2. Academy/Club Assistant Coaches


The Bronze level coaches are to assist the silver level coaches or state head coaches implement the programs set by the silver level coach or state head coach and guide the bowlers on the on-lane adjustments.


Coaches certified as Bronze level will be able to document findings and plans for specific bowlers, and can customize individual bowler training regime.


Typically Bronze level coaches are able to guide intermediate level bowlers. Bowlers averaging between 150 - 200 average.





Silver Level Coaching Certification

(AKK Level 3 Sport Specific)

The Silver Level Coaching Certification is the advance level of coaching for the sport of Tenpin Bowling.


Upon completion of the Silver Level Coaching Certification Program, the coach will be able to create a customized training program for a team preparing for a championship, able to prepare an individual training program for an individual bowler.


They will also be able to work out the budget estimation for a program, periodization plan for the team as well as more advanced understanding of the sport, and technique required to be a world class bowler.


The Silver Level Certification is required for:-


1. Head Coach of a State Team Program such as SUKMA

2. Head Coach for Univeristy team

3. Head Coach for an academy / Club


Silver level certified coach have the knowledge to create programs suitable for bowlers under their program, and create their coaching culture.


Silver level coaches are able to guide bowlers in their arsenal preparation and strategies on lane play.


Typically for advance level bowlers. Bowlers averaging 200 and beyond where strategy and lane play becomes crucial.




Silver Advance Level Coaching Certificate

The Silver-Advance Level Coaching Certificate is provided to National Level Coaches that have acquired the necessary knowledge to guide the National Team, and prepare a program for a National Team.


This is given to certified National Assistant Coaches when the MTBC Coaching Panel approves it with the recommendation of the National Head Coach.

Gold Level Coaching Certification

The Gold Level Coaching Certificate is provided to National Level Coaches that have acquired the necessary knowledge to guide the National Team, and prepare a program for a National Team.


Have been the Head Coach of the National Elite Team at least 5 years with proven track record.


This is given to certified National Head Coach when the MTBC Executive Committee approves it.
